“Spider-man: across the universes”: a movie comic in the truest sense
The franchise “spider-Man” began its life in the sixties of the last century and for such a considerable period has grown seriously. If all began with the story of Peter Parker, then in the future radioactive spiders bit a variety of people and inhumans in parallel, restarted and simply alternative universes. It is about the diversity of spider-men and tells “spider-Man: through the universes” (Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse).
In comics major publications-DC and Marvel-the notion of parallel and alternative universes there is very long. So long ago that it is difficult to say which of the universes is still original. These universes differ from each other slightly sometimes, just one detail — for example, the sex of the character, and in other cases the difference is visible in everything.Peter Parker and spider-Man fell in love with the public, and so versions of the creature bitten by a radioactive spider began to multiply and multiply. One of the most striking was the story of miles Morales in 2011 — a dark-skinned teenager who replaced Peter Parker’s spider-Man who died in the Ultimate marvel universe. And it is miles who is the protagonist of the film adaptation of “Through the universes”.At all, the emergence of miles was social — the publishing house wanted give American teenagers with different from white color skin positive role model. The same idea is promoted by “Black Panther”. And an example, it seems to me, quite successful: miles as a whole turned out to be a diverse character, skillfully combining teenage rebelliousness, and heroic undertakings, and some childish naivety, and quite adult seriousness. Miles and his actions, his character, are easy to believe. Both in the comics and in the film.Miles lives in a wonderful full family with a policeman dad and a nurse mom, periodically runs off to his uncle, who lives in a loft with a punching bag and a fifteen-inch audio system with burdocks, goes to school for very smart or very rich children. Miles himself belongs to the first, and in the society of the second he is uncomfortable.
But as always, of course, suddenly there is a radioactive spider, and the life of our character is turned upside down. And then there’s miles is witnessing not the most pleasant of events and decides to save the city. After all, who will do it, if not spider-Man?
But everything is not so simple: because of the underground giant Collider, several dimensions have mixed with each other, and the “spider-men” from parallel universes have moved to the universe of miles. So now the good old Brooklyn miles will not save alone: he will help a more adult version of Peter Parker, a Noir version of Peter Parker originally from the thirties, Gwen-spider, whose costume is, respectively, Gwen Stacy, anime Peni Parker in an embrace with a huge robot and pig spider performed by Porky.
There are three types of jokes in the film: millennial, simple and Recalling past film adaptations. Simple jokes are associated with the fact that only received the ability miles sticks to all surfaces and simply can not cope with their skills, getting into different stupid situations. The purveyor of millennial humor was an adult version of Peter Parker who fell into an existential crisis. Before entering miles’s universe, he had lain on his bed in a broken apartment, mindlessly reading friendlies, watching TV and eating pizza, trying to figure out why he even existed, disillusioned with his heroism, his marriage, and simply his life.
References to past adaptations are full — they meet the viewer from the very beginning. Neither Tobey Maguire, nor Andrew Garfield, nor the youngest kinopauchka Tom Holland, did not forget the animated film adaptations that spawned a ton of memes, and gently walked through the vast past of all the universes of spider-Man.
The plot, of course, is simple, we’ve seen it dozens of times – it’s becoming a superhero, realizing your place in life and all that. But In “through the universes” it is very unusual: and the creators themselves are aware that the audience already knows everything about uncle Ben, a great force with great responsibility and other attributes. Trapped in the universe miles other spiders direct texts him say, that, too, through all of this over, perfectly his understand and are prepared help. Here, the superhero is not left alone with the panic that suddenly appeared forces bring to him — he is surrounded by those who were in this situation and who coped with it.
Miles, being the main character of the film, brought a bit of a peculiar style to the picture — big boomboxes, graffiti, Air Jordan 1 in the colors of “Chicago”, Sony headphones from the Extra Bass line, and hip-hop dominates the soundtrack. The soundtrack is matched to the events taking place perfectly. The music is accompanied by funny audio effects, designed to emphasize the animation — in a normal movie this looks strange, but the cartoon fits perfectly.
But the most important thing in the picture is the visual series. Performed by Sony, “Through the universes” became a real movie comic. This is an animated film, and it managed to embody the drawn characters perfectly — with all the simplifications and hyperbolization inherent in comics. The characters are followed by bubbles with text, sound effects and screams are complemented by jumping letters on the screen, even the picture is periodically painted in the same way as in comics — dots. The colors are bright, juicy, acidic in a good way, the picture is diverse and very high quality, but at the same time unusual. The trailer, made in this style, has generated a lot of questions, but in full meter this almost literal transfer of comics to the screen looks gorgeous. And Easter eggs at the expense of this managed to throw.
The story of miles Morales and other different from Peter Parker spiders on the screen presented with a flourish, with feeling, with love for both the franchise and its fans. Juicy picture, seasoned with an interesting embodiment of a simple story, live characters, interesting animation, unusual style-thanks to this, “spider-Man: through the universes” has become a wonderful entertainment movie, which is suitable for those who are familiar only with the film versions of Peter Parker, and those who managed to dig into the comics. It does not let you get bored, it encourages you to look closely at what is happening on the screen, and even, maybe, will make you think about something.
